Chapter Six, Scene 7

The crowd shifted and thinned, and Kevin could see more of the people who had come out of the concourse. On his right was a tall, middle-aged guy in a fairly sharp suit, but he was leaving the building, so that wouldn’t be him. There was a somewhat large woman who was talking non-stop, in a pretty loud voice to a tired-looking man. Interesting, but probably not a Memorite. With their backs to him were two women who had nice figures. One in a blue dress, the other in some sort of long off-white jacket and black slacks. Pleasant to look at, but given they were deep into girl talk, they also probably not who he was looking for. Across the room, there was an older man who seemed to be looking around. Kevin held his head up so the man could see him. He was on the other side of the two attractive women, but looking in another direction. The two women parted company, and Kevin stepped to the side so the older man’s view wouldn’t be blocked. While one of the women walked away, the other stayed where she was. Kevin shifted again to make sure the older man could see him. The woman walked in Kevin’s direction, and he moved to step out of her way as well as continue to provide the older man a decent view. The older man was still looking around in the wrong direction. Kevin almost started to raise his hand to motion to the man, when the woman stopped in front of him.

“Detective Gould?”

Kevin gave her a blank look and stared for a second or two.

“You’re...?”

“Laura Wynn,” she said, shifting her bag to her left hand and holding her right hand out.

“Kevin Gould,” he said, offering his hand and an embarrassed smile.
