Laura was sorting the data she’d received as well as playing with the little girl by occasionally opening her eyes to make her quickly hide when the news of Walser’s arrest was transmitted to her. The data was again sparse, but she was instructed to attempt to get the police to turn both TacComs over to her, although neither she nor the Memorite Prime Council considered that likely to happen.

As the normal transmission resumed, something dawned on Laura. Something that she’d missed. She’d been so busy preparing and focusing on the information that this simple little idea had completely slipped by her. She was about to go to an area where a Memorite had already been murdered. Her life could also be in danger. When she first received the assignment, she hadn’t even considered that. Even while processing the data it hadn’t hit her. For the first time in a very long while, Laura Wynn was afraid.
